The Glass House Quilt Inspiration

I’m from the Ferris Bueller generation…you know, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” Born in the mid-century, raised in the seventies and eighties, when things were all about modern and new.
But growing up in the shadow of the windy city, I had a glimpse into so many beautiful things that exist already. I loved the architecture of modern homes from that mid-century era.

There are so many in this area that speak to me, and when I started this quilt, I knew so many “Glass Houses” were in my head for inspiration; Farnsworth House in Plano, the Rockwell House in Olympia Fields, and, of course, the Rose House in Highland Park (you know, Cameron’s house from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off!), to name just a few.
The way you can look at them and see the house but see through them to see inside, but also see the reflection of the trees and the grass surrounding them. That’s what this quilt is, the windows that reflect their surroundings but also give a little glimpse into each beautiful room, different but connected.
I hope you are inspired by these beautiful Glass Houses to make your own, with glimpses into each room and reflect the interesting surroundings. The centers of each block are designed to work great with a charm pack from Ruby Star Society, or to fussy cut from your favorite Heather Ross or other fun fabric.
